Flow & Rise

in Rituals of Healing

Groot Gallery, St Olaf College, Fall 2021

Flow & Rise presents an atmosphere of tranquility, fluidity, movement, and transition. Breaking through the columnar planes of the suspended orbs, the sheer fabric creates filtered sightlines that shift alongside natural daylight. Perhaps resembling an ongoing, slow-moving ripple, the chiffon materializes the ephemeral movement of water and invites its audience to travel through the space and observe how the work changes with one’s position in the room. The heaviness of the ceramic forms is visually challenged by their soft, globular contours and simple support system. Contrasting the impermanent nature of water embodied by the chiffon, the orbs may inspire images of falling droplets or rising bubbles. While the installation was created with consideration of and reflection on water and its many qualities, the work encourages the diverse interpretations and thoughts of every viewer. Flow & Rise offers a space to breathe, observe, and reflect.
