A Multiplicity in Solitude
When working with clay, I experience a dispersion of pain, confusion, and anger (also passion, curiosity, and love) through the pressure and repetitive motions of my hands. My interaction with clay isn’t a solitary practice, but a visceral journey with the material.
In this work, I explore how touch can alter the body forever, seeking the origin of my urge to break out of my skin–to harm something made carefully, with great care and detail and depth. As I gently mutilate my pots, I reclaim deep, residual pain by bringing intent and breath to actions that I've formerly used to pierce, rupture, and bruise my flesh.
