Week 3 - Taking it Slow

This week’s been a pretty laid back week in the studio for me. I’ve been taking it slow and focusing on myself and getting back into a healthy, sustainable routine. I also spent some time browsing rock formations on Pinterest and gathered some new visual inspo to pin up on my studio walls.

The stool progress continues. Almost done.

GH and Lilly fired a soda full of studio pots for our upcoming Valentine’s sale at Canary Club and graciously fired these Propriocepta forms for me. The long one fell and warped but didn’t crack, which was an awesome surprise. I soaked the insides of these with a super saturated soda solution, and they were placed at the bottom of the kiln near the flue. I’m loving the heavy soda settlement.

The custer feldspar shortage of 2024 has thrown my plans for a loop. Until I test out some alternate recipes for the class stoneware, I’m going to play around with this dark high-fire claybody - “Mangus/Kwong All Purpose Dark Clay.” I mixed up a 25lb batch. I plan to make some small sculptures and functional work with it after it ages for a week or so.

weekly gratitudes

~ I’ve started working out/lifting again and I’m feeling great. Endorphins are great.

~ The rain! I’ve never experienced rain this time of the year anywhere I’ve lived before, and it’s lovely.
