Week 2 - Vignettes
I don’t have much to report studio wise this week. It’s been busy for me, work and life wise, and I’ve been nursing an ankle/leg injury while training at a new job and working some pretty long bartending shifts. Since I’ve had to be on my feet for work, I haven’t been able to work large scale this week. Instead, I brought some clay home and made a series of small, sculptural vignettes while elevating and icing my leg after shifts.
I plan to continue making these throughout the semester when I am unable to progress on my large sculpture. Especially with my main focus this fall being this big, singular project, I think it’s important for me to keep pushing out ideas, even if only in the form of these quick sculptural sketches. They function as both maquettes that inform and inspire future largescale work, and tactile vignettes that I can sell at future sales at accessible cost.
As always, I feel guilty for not being able to get in the studio this week. But I did the best I could with the time and energy I had. I’ll find the balance as my injury heals and my work schedule becomes more manageable.
