Week 12 - Slowing Time
This week in the studio, I returned to working on my large sculpture.
Not pictured is the fly that’s obsessed with my smelly clay. I swear the same fly has been in my studio since the start of the semester and starts buzzing around whenever I work with my paper clay. Hope it doesn’t lay eggs in the reclaim.
Outside of the studio, I applied for a workshop scholarship, and, huge news for my ceramics’ acting career: four of my pots are part of the set of a feature film! One of my acquaintances moved to Louisville from LA to work as a film set dresser/designer and requested my pieces to be featured in one of the sets. So I went through the process of making a quote and contract for renting out my art and I’m making some easy passive income for renting them out for this week. Super cool!
Sculpting big is so slow and all consuming. The clay demands my patience and gently requests my surrender as I build, reveal, and evolve the form. It graciously offers me rest from my fast paced life when I yield to its steady, grounding tempo.
I can’t stop the hours from passing, but I can slow my sense of time when I tune into the clay.
Short blog this week (: toodles! <3
